May 18-20, 2018. Battle of Resaca. During May 14-15, 1864, the first major battle of the Atlanta Campaign was fought around the tiny village of Resaca, Georgia. Gen. Joseph E. Johnston's Confederate army of 55,000 soldiers had fallen back from Dalton and had occupied the strong defensive fortifications around the town. In hot pursuit and now directly facing them across the breastworks was the 110,000 strong Federal army under the command of Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman. For two days, unrelenting attacks and counter-attacks took place all along the length of the lines, with neither side gaining an advantage. We will be Confederate infantry all weekend. We will have some members from other units join us to create a larger unit. This is the first time for us at this event, so come and make this a battle to remember. Resaca is located off of interstate I-75 approximately 40 miles south of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and 70 miles north of Atlanta, Georgia. From I-75, take exit #320 (Lafayette, Georgia Hwy. 136), go east approximately 3/10 mile to US Hwy. 41. Turn left, go north approximately 3 miles, then turn right onto Chitwood Road (the area is well marked with event signs).
